Two photos by our own Dave Anderson were recently hand-picked to appear in the "Joaquim Paiva Collection" at Rio de Janeiro's Museum of Modern Art (MAM). The photographs will join the work of 122 photographers —with a total of 413 prints —in a collection of foreign photography.
Started in 1978, Paiva's private collection is considered one of the greatest in all of Latin America; the work he has donated to the MAM holds a powerful presence within the museum, and —Paiva hopes —within the community. "As a collector," Paiva admits, "I consider that building a cooperative relationship with a museum is a good way to make a collection available to the public and the future generations." In an age where so much of art is digital, this outlook is truly refreshing. Taking their place in the foreign artists' section of the "Joaquim Paiva Collection," Anderson's prints will reach a very new audience and, perhaps, have a fresh impact from Brazilian perspectives. Be sure to check out his website, at http://www.joaquimpaiva.com. Reader beware: the site is in Portuguese (might I suggest Google Translate?) More information on the collection can be found under the heading "Coleção Joaquim Paiva".
